Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan: Outdoor Ice Rink in the Heart of an Amusement Park

Kyrgyzstan – a mountainous Central Asian republic with Olympic-level peaks, mountain passes and a long tradition of winter sports. And it is here, in the capital Bishkek, that we built an outdoor ice rink as part of the Eurasia Park entertainment complex – under the patronage of the President of Kyrgyzstan.

The Project: A Rink for the Whole Family

The 20 × 40 metre ice rink is an integral part of the Eurasia Park amusement complex in Bishkek. The complex offers attractions for the whole family – and the ice rink has become one of its main winter highlights.

Photos from operation tell the story: a full rink of happy visitors, children with parents, colourful Christmas decorations and bunting flags above the skaters’ heads. Ice quality excellent, atmosphere festive.

The ice quality was excellent. The refrigeration system handled the temperature fluctuations of the Central Asian climate with ease.

The Technical Challenge: Variable Weather

An outdoor ice rink in Central Asia faces a specific challenge that indoor projects do not have to deal with: unpredictable weather. Bishkek experiences genuine winter frosts, but global warming is bringing increasingly rapid temperature swings – a warm day can follow a frost and vice versa.

The refrigeration technology we designed and supplied for Eurasia Park handled this challenge superbly. The system responded to changes in outdoor temperature and maintained stable conditions on the ice surface throughout the season – regardless of what the weather was doing.

Key to success was:

  • Refrigeration system sized with sufficient capacity for outdoor conditions
  • Fast system response to temperature fluctuations
  • Reliable operation without downtime throughout the winter season

Under Presidential Patronage

The Eurasia Park Bishkek project was developed under the patronage of the President of Kyrgyzstan – a clear indication of the strategic importance the Kyrgyz government places on the development of modern recreational and sports infrastructure.

For us, this project is further confirmation of the trust we are steadily building across Central Asia. Bishkek follows our projects in Tashkent and Samarkand and confirms that ICE Professional is the partner for the entire region.

Central Asia Is Skating – and We Are Part of It

Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan – all of Central Asia is undergoing a sporting and recreational renaissance. Ice sports and winter attractions are finding new audiences in countries where ice was until recently the domain of elite athletes only.

ICE Professional supplies the technology that drives this growth. From outdoor rinks in parks to professional hockey arenas and snow rooms in tropical climates – we are wherever ice is growing.
