Ice Rink Dasherboards
How to Choose the Right System
Dasherboards are one of the most visible elements of any ice arena. Every spectator sees them, every player feels them, every TV shot captures them. Yet their selection is one of the most underestimated decisions in rink construction. What are the specific options, what matters, and how do you avoid taking the wrong path?
What Are Dasherboards and Why Does Their Selection Matter?
Dasherboards are the boundary of the ice surface, fulfilling several key functions at once: safety protection for players during board battles, visual boundary of the playing area for spectators and referees, a media surface for advertising and arena branding, and a structural element resisting repeated impacts and temperature fluctuations.
A poorly chosen board system shows quickly – through deformation, cracks, dangerous joints or high maintenance costs. A properly chosen system lasts for decades without problems.
Our Range: Four Dasherboard Systems for Ice Hockey
We supply Czech-made dasherboards in four ranges covering the full spectrum from recreational skating to professional hockey:
MOBILE DASHERBOARDS – mobile boards for temporary rinks, events and recreational use. Fast assembly and disassembly without anchoring to the floor. Ideal for seasonal outdoor rinks or rinks in shopping centres where relocation is anticipated.
HOCKEY DASHERBOARDS – The CANADA board is a professional, double-wall hockey dasherboard for arenas of any performance level. The S-FLEX board, compared to the CANADA type, is equipped with active flexible elements. The G-FLEX board, compared to the S-FLEX type, has active flexible elements with adjustable flexibility. The pillarless construction of all three types allows the installation of protective glass without load-bearing steel profiles – a clear view for spectators and cameras, with an emphasis on player safety.
Complete Board System – Everything From One Source
Dasherboards are not just a panel and a frame. We supply complete ice arena equipment:
- Protective glass above the boards – polycarbonate, acrylic
- Protective netting – above boards with or without protective glass
- Board advertising covers – replaceable cover panels for sponsor areas
- Player benches
- Penalty boxes and timekeeper areas – in a design matching the chosen board system
- Horizontally divided curb – allows board removal during the season without affecting the ice
- Rear board covers – aesthetic and safety finishing
- Player area equipment – player benches, raised floors, timekeeper table, stick racks, drink holders
- Ice hockey goals – including accessories, flexible anchor pegs and mini-goals for youth
- Goal judge cabins – in STANDARD design
- Skate-resistant floor coverings – puzzle tiles, rubber mats and rectangular panels for locker rooms and corridors
- Summer sports equipment – fixed anchor elements and mobile elements for multi-purpose arena use outside the winter season
- Spare parts – long-term availability of parts for all supplied systems
Mobile vs. Fixed Dasherboards – When to Choose Which?
Fixed dasherboards are anchored into the technological slab and form part of the arena’s permanent structure. Suitable for all permanent projects.
Mobile systems are modular without the need for anchoring. Ideal for temporary outdoor rinks, shopping centres and events. Faster assembly, but lower durability. For year-round commercial operation, we always recommend a fixed system.
Czech Manufacturing at International Championships
The dasherboards we supply stand at stadiums worldwide, and several IIHF World Championships across all categories – including the elite division – have been played on them.
ICE Professional: Dasherboards as Part of a Complete Solution
In every ice arena project, we assess dasherboards in the context of the entire technology – from refrigeration and dehumidification to player area equipment. Dasherboards are not a standalone product. They are part of a system that must function as a whole.
