World Figure Skating on Our Arena’s Ice

The Georgian coastal city of Batumi will host the ISU Junior Grand Prix from 24 to 26 September 2026 – the prestigious international series for the world’s best junior figure skaters. And it will take place on the ice of Batumi Ice Arena, an arena ICE Professional helped deliver.

What Is the Junior Grand Prix?

The ISU Junior Grand Prix is the most significant international series for junior figure skaters, expanded this year to seven events across Asia and Europe. The 2026/27 season kicked off on 20 August in Xi’an, China, and over the following eight weeks will move through six further destinations – Batumi among them.

The Junior Grand Prix is the pathway for future figure skating stars – many participants go on to compete at World Championships and the Olympic Games. The top performers from each event advance to the final, held this year in December in Chongqing, China.

Batumi – Winter Sports on the Black Sea

Batumi is a fascinating location for winter sports: a subtropical coastal city on the Black Sea, where palm trees meet a modern ice arena. It’s further proof that ice knows no climate boundaries – just like our projects in Phuket or Tashkent.

Batumi Ice Arena has hosted figure skating events before – in February 2025, it held figure skating and short track competitions as part of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). Now the Junior Grand Prix arrives, further confirming Batumi’s role as a venue for international figure skating in the region.

Why Ice Quality Matters So Much for Figure Skating

Figure skating places even higher demands on ice quality than hockey. Skaters need ice firm enough for clean edges during jumps and spins, yet precise enough to allow accurate edge control. Ice for figure skating is typically kept slightly warmer and softer than hockey ice – around -3°C to -4°C. Precise temperature control, quality water treatment and a reliable resurfacer are essential – exactly the technologies we deliver in our projects.

ICE Professional: Where World Sport Is Made

Batumi is once again hosting international figure skating. And on ice we helped create, another chapter of that tradition will unfold.
